I met up with Ashley & Jeff yesterday at Lake Metigoshe for their Engagement Session.

Ashley and I both woke up Saturday thankful that it wasn't raining. I think we all would have liked a little sunshine instead of the cold wind but we made it work! We found some cool spots where we were sheltered from the wind and we were able to capture some great shots.

Here are a few of my favorites so far!

On my way home from the lake last night I stopped to capture some Senior Portraits for Tyra. I had met Tyra a few years ago at her brothers senior session and I work with her mom so I was excited to get to work with her again.

We moved around the area a lot and made a few clothing changes along the way but she was a real trooper! She gave me the look a couple of times when I said just one more here and then we will move on, especially when the new location had the odd spider web!!!

Congratulations to..............

We had the privilege of capturing a wedding this weekend that was pretty special to us. We often refer to this groom as "the little brother we never had"!! We have known Curtis since he was a little boy and we have spent a lot of time with him and his family over the years. When they got engaged and Kay asked us if we would be their photographers, we were thrilled.
Even though we were worried about the weather & the possible road closures, everything was perfect and they had a beautiful day.
I quickly took a look and here are some of my favorites so far!

Wow, where has the time gone. It has been a busy 6 months although looking at my blog you wouldn't think so but life has been keeping me busy!
Anyways, enough about me...look who's ONE...Brenner!!!!! Brenner brought his mom, dad and big sister in on Saturday for his one year session. We started at the park and then went indoors so he could have his cake & eat it too!!!
I can't believe how much he has grown. It has been a lot of fun watching him grow & change from a newborn baby!!!

He thought things were pretty funny to start with, he had lots of smiles & laughs for me but as the time went by he grew tired of the lights & of having my camera in his face.

Meet the Grubb Family

The Grubb's stopped in this morning to have some pictures taken of their family for Christmas and some of their handsome little guy!!

We did some outside and man did this little guy like to move around, I chased him from one end to the other but I managed to get a few good ones!!!

We also stayed inside for pictures and it didn't slow him down one bit, thank goodness the room isn't very big.

Brenner ~ 3 months old

Look who came by this morning for his 3 month session....BRENNER!!!!!!
He wasnt too smilely today, we tried everything - tickling, toys and even sneezing (apparently he thinks his parents are pretty funny when they sneeze!) but he wasn't having any part of it!

I went over to Ella's house last night for her first photo session! Isn't she just the cutest! Ella's mommy and daddy are pretty excited about her arrival. Ms. Brynlee!

I had the honor of going over to the Rostad's tonight to meet Ms. Brynlee and play with her big brother & big sister, who were full of energy once they warmed up to me. Mr. Casen was even sitting on my knee reading a book if you can believe it!

Ms. Brynlee wasn't too interested in sleeping which for a 6 week old, is kind of odd, mom said she isn't much of a napper but I am thinking Brynlee was afraid of what I was going to do to her!!!

Well please help me welcome to the world....Brenner!!!!!

You met Brenner's mommy & daddy a month ago when I posted their maternity session and from here on out the sessions are all about Brenner!

This little guy is 7 days old and let me just say he is HANDSOME! And even though he is only 7 days old, he knows what he likes & doesn't like...he knew he didn't like me trying to put him on his tummy on his daddy's arm and there was no convincing him otherwise!

Brenner was more awake than any 7 day old baby I know, he just didn't want to miss a thing. But as usual, his mommy knew what would do the trick and worked her magic on him...I don't know if it was the baby massage on his forehead that did him in or what but he finally fell asleep.

The Grotte Family

Look who stopped by tonight...The Grotte Family.

Now this was a special session because the dad is home on a 9 day leave from the US Army so he wanted some family pictures, some of his kids and some with his wife.

These two little kids were typical 4 1/2 and almost 3 year olds! They were not too excited to have to sit in one place for too long but we managed to get some fun shots anyways! You could definetly tell they were excited to be with their dad because they were more than willing to jump on him and wrestle with him.

I am honored to have had the opportunity to take your pictures this week.

Yesterday's wedding was bittersweet for Angela K Photography. It was our last wedding for the "wedding season".
This wedding was full of laugher, fun, dancing and the great apparent love between Stephanie & Jordan. We first met Steph & Jordan a few months ago for their engagement session. We knew that day that their wedding was going to be so much fun and man were we right!
We met up with them at the church where the Steph was looking so gorgeous & Jordan was looking pretty handsome too. We did the traditional first meeting which had Jordan a little nervous. Then we went to the park for some formals & met up with their very entertaining wedding party!!
We also had the privelage of staying for some of the dance which was a first for us because usually our time is up and we never get to be a part of the dance. Let me tell you these people know how to have a great time complete with the kissing bowl, the chicken dance & the Porta Party DJ Picture booth!!!

Erica & Landon were married in Rochester in June but since some of their family & friends could not attend their June wedding they had a reception to celebrate here in ND on Saturday.
They still wanted the traditional wedding portraits of them as Bride & Groom along with their families. So we meet up with them and took portraits as though Saturday was their wedding day!
We fought the heat for most of the session but we were able to find shade and cool off.

We were in Rugby this Saturday for Renee & Cody's wedding. I first meet them at their engagment session a few months back when they were home from Nevada. It was great to see them again on their very special day.

It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining, the bride was gorgeous and the groom was pretty handsome too! They had a fun bridal party ~ the girls were a little more relaxed than the guys during pictures but then we hit the reception and the guys relaxed a little after some apple pie!

We travelled to Melita this past weekend to take pictures for the Class of 2009.

This was a special day for us as one of the graduates was our niece.

We ended up having to have everyone's session inside because it rained, and even though we had a few flickers of power failure, everyone's session went great! We had the honor of photographing Christy & Derek’s wedding on Saturday in Williston. We were able to capture the beautiful bride getting ready before it was time to go and have the traditional first meeting. Christy & Derek wanted their first meeting to be at the park. It is always so much fun watching a bride & groom see either other for the first time on their wedding day and this was no exception! After the first meeting, we moved around the park for some bridals before heading back to the church for some formals with the bridal party & the families.

I have to apologize to Christy & Derek for not getting their sneak peek posted until now, my daughter was admitted to the hospital on Sunday and well to be honest, I am just getting back into to the grove of things.

My last two brides & grooms have gone to Jamaica for their honeymoon, I think I should check into what is so great about Jamaica!

We traveled to Calgary Alberta this past weekend to photograph a very special wedding. My cousin Marci was marrying the love of her life Steve. When we arrived in Calgary Friday early afternoon, it was raining. When woke up Saturday to get ready for the day, it was snowing, yes I said SNOWING.

Anyways, we arrived at the hotel to take pictures of Marci & her sisters getting ready. She made such a beautiful bride. We met up with Steve in the lobby for a few shots too.

They had a beautiful wedding ceremony and after the ceremony we started formal family portraits and by the time we were done, the sun was shining and we were able to get outside for some fun pictures with the bridal party.

Since Stu wasn't feeling well the day of their wedding we decided redo their bridals so they could have images that truely reflect their love for one another. Stu rented a tux and Kiernan put her beautiful dress back on Saturday for take two of the bridal images.

Now I knew Stu was feeling a lot better as soon as I saw him walk into the church. He was joking and laughing and you could truely see how much fun these two have when they are together.

WOW, it has been a long time since I posted last. I have been busy even though I haven't been posting.

I have been working on a my books for year end and trying to some house keeping items as far as business goes...trust me it was not near as exciting as it sounds! I have been doing a few fun projects though too! I have also been busy working out and trying to be a healthier person! We have a "biggest loser" competition going on at work so I decided to play along. I am happy to report so far I am down 6.8lbs and I was the "biggest loser" during week 3. My family & I joined the Minot YMCA and I have been faithfully going every night. It is so amazing to me how much better I feel and I actually think I am addicted to working out! I am getting a little tired of the same old healthy foods I have eating though so if any of you have any delicious healthy recipes to share please email me or post them here because I am starting to run out of ideas for healthy foods that taste great.

Okay enough about that, I really wanted to post tonight to let you all know that in the next couple of weeks, I am launching my new gallery & shopping cart! I am still trying to get it ready and I have set March 1st as my deadline! What this means for those of you with galleries on my site right now, is your images are going to be unavailable for a few days while I reload them to my new gallery. So don't panic, they will be back, they are just going to be MIA for a few days.

I am so excited for Summer, not only because I am sick of the snow but I am excited to photograph 7 weddings this summer and one graduation!

Anyways, I just wanted to post quickly tonight so you didn't think I have fallen off the face of the earth! I hope you are all doing great and I promise I will try and post again soon.

I had the honor of photographing Stu and Kiernan's wedding yesterday.
I have known Kiernan for years but I never knew what a strong, composed women she is. The dresses were late arriving to the church and two loves of her life were sick with the flu which resulted in Stu making a trip to the ER just hours before the wedding. Through it all, she remained so composed and was even cracking jokes which I think helped put everyone at ease.
You guys had a beautiful day, Kiernan you made a beautiful bride and Stu you were a pretty handsome groom too!

Baby Boy Cooper

Here is another family session from a few weeks ago, meet my cousin & belly! I called her when I was in MB last time and asked her if she still wanted maternity portraits, she said yes, and this is the result.

We even had soon to be big brother Naron do some fancy artwork on his mom's belly! He thought it was fun at first and then wanted his hands washed!!!

Now if you are a praying person, please say a little pray for her and her baby. She was admitted to the hospital last week and the last update I got was that she is still there. She is 34 1/2 weeks along so this little bundle needs to stay put.

I hope you like the portraits and I am so glad we did them when we did!

Hope you guys are all still doing great, and remember you are in the bet place, even if the food isn't so great!

I have the honor of photographing Cole & Dana's wedding next summer so we thought we would get together for a pre-husband & wife session! I don't think I can really call this an engagement session because Dana told me she just wanted some new pictures of her and Cole together!

We started inside and then we ventured out in the snow. It was 36 degrees out so it was actually nice considering!!! Isn't it funny how our perspective changes, 36 degrees is nice but if we had a summer day that was 36 degrees man it would be cold!

Think Pink’s 2009 Hot Dad’s calendar is complete & ready for you to purchase!

My friend Tennille King, founder of Think Pink Photography had an awesome contest at her studio called Hot Dads! Wives submitted pictures of their children’s Hot Dad back in May and then Tenille’s blog followers’ help chose the top 12 Hot Dad’s.

The purpose of the Hot Dad’s contest was to get 12 great images for the Hot Dad’s calendar which has 100% of it profits going to The Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation. The Seykora's came to Minot today for our session this afternoon. We started indoors & then headed outside to take advantage of the gorgeous day.

Naomi is such a little cutie. She will be two in December so she is busy! I was able to bribe her into sitting for me for a little bit to get some great shots. Once she was tired of me & my Cheerios, we headed outside for some fun in the sun & leaves.

We got some very cute shots of Naomi and Mom & Dad; here is a small sample of what I have looked at so far.

The Rostad's

The Rostad's stopped by this morning for a session so we did some pictures inside & then made our way to the park!

Addisyn was very into posing today, she made me laugh! Kasen on the other hand wasn't interested in having his picture taken today. We did get some great shots of both of them though and we even managed to get some great family shots too!

Portfolio Building Special Ending in THREE WEEKS....

I am proud to announce that my Porfolio Building Special will be ending on November 4th, 2008!!! I have worked with a lot of great families during the last few months & I want to thank all of you for allowing me to photograph you & your families.

What exactly does this mean? It means that as of November 4th, 2008 my portfolio building special that included a complimentary session, complimentary 8x10 print & 30% discount will be discontinued. My regular session fee of $50 will be in place & the portrait costs will be at full price. Now this doesn't mean that I won't be offering specials in the future but this particular special will no longer be in effect.

If you have already booked your holiday session with Angela K Photography, you will still receive the portfolio building special. There are still a few sessions available in October that will qualify for the portfolio building special so give me a call or send me an email to book your session.

I just have to say again THANKS to all of my portfolio building babies, children, seniors & families. I look forward to seeing you all again!

This past weekend my kids & I traveled to Napinka, MB a to visit with my sister & her boys who were home visiting from Calgary. We had a great time visiting and just laughing at the little kids all together.

Well friends it is with a sad heart that I tell all of you that Lillie has passed away. She got her wings on September 3rd. I just read about her passing so I wanted to come back to the blog & make sure to pass on the news in case any of you great people out there sent a donation to her ocean cause.

First day of Pre School

Well today was the day that we sent our babies to Pre school. I know they aren't babies, they are 3 1/2 years old but it was kind of a hard day, thinking that they are old enough to go to school. Anyways, they both popped out of bed this morning when I woke them up. They were very excited to go to school. They went to daycare this morning just so they could get an idea for how their school days would go. Kelly & picked them up at noon and took them to school.

They wanted to be the ones to hang their coats & back packs up on the hooks! They found their name tags & were off to play. Kelly and stood outside the door and watched threw the crack in the door to make sure they were ok! They were fine, us on the other hand, we didn't cry but well any of you parents who took your babies/baby to their first day of school will understand!

We picked them back up and they were so excited! They had a great time at school. They learned some new songs & Mikkail said she told her teacher she was going to come back next week!

Before they left this morning we had to get the first day of school snaps so here are Zachary & Mikkail on their first day of school!

Wow is it a little early to be telling secrets about myself but here goes!!!!

I’m Canadian (not quirky at all)
I had to get my license 3 times! I got it when I was 15 1/2, then when I moved from MB to NV I had to do the written & driving parts again because I was coming from a different country. And then when I moved from NV to ND I had to do the written part again because of the different state laws!!!
I hate folding socks!
I keep a stash of candy in my desk at work for those times when I need a sugar fix!
I can touch my nose with my tongue (some might see this as gross rather than quirky but my kids find it entertaining)
I love listening to Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn!! Their music brings back great childhood memories of driving with my family on a family vacation!

I had a session today with 5 week old Braleigh! Now our session got off on a little rocky start, not because of Braleigh but I got lost trying to get to her! I think her daddy thought I was crazy because apparently no one had ever gotten lost going to their house before!!!

I just got finished proofing a few images from my session from tonight. This session was a first for me and Andrew, my first male senior session & his first time having to spend 2 hours with someone pointing a camera at him while telling him where to stand, to smile, to not smile, to move a few steps this way or that way!

Having his senior pictures taken wasn't Andrew's idea but he had an "Okay time".

Meet Addie & her family!

She was a ball of energy for our session on Friday! Her mom and dad wanted me to take her two year pictures & a few family pictures but Addie had other plans. She loved to run in the opposite direction we wanted her to go and well she was your typical two year old - BUSY! Addie wasn't too interested in having her picture taken but she was more than willing to help me use my "click"!! She was a lot of fun and dispite what you think mom, I enjoyed every minute of our busy session!!

This wedding had quite the story! The bride and groom had to move their wedding up a few months because Bob was being shipped to Italy. The day of the wedding it was a beautiful sunny day right up until the family pictures. A huge storm hit and the power went out during family pictures and remained out for a hour and a half. Jessica was such a trooper. The rain never seemed to phase her. The power came back on just before the ceremony. They had a beautiful wedding and Jessica was a beautiful bride! Bob was shipped to Italy 4 days after they were married.

I wish them all the best in getting their papers approved so Jessica can join her new husband soon.

Family Reunion

This past weekend, I had a family reunion at the camp ground that my family has been going to for as long as I can remember. There were 51 of us; 3 generations of family! We had a great day playing a variety of games - sack races and three legged races to name a few. We also had a boys vs girls shoe race!! You had to put your shoes in the pile and then race to find yours, some of the players cheated a little but I think the girls still came out victorious!!! After our games we all enjoyed what we like to call a "garbage supper" otherwise known as a potluck. A huge rain storm past through and some of the kids had a great time playing in the puddles.

I had the chance to photograph Riley & Emma yesterday! They were full of energy! Emma sang me a song and Riley showed me all of his hockey pucks and told me about his favorite Star Wars characters. We all know someone or have heard about someone who has been diagnosed with, is fighting or who has lost a battle with Breast Cancer. As of 10:00am today, I have become a member of a great organization called Think Pink Photography.

Think Pink Photography was founded in October 2007 to support individuals and their families who have been touched by breast cancer. We are a non-profit organization that serves two main purposes - celebrating life and supporting the cause.

Through our photography network, we are helping breast cancer survivors and their supporters to celebrate life with charitable photography sessions.

Through donations and various fundraising efforts, all profits from Think Pink Photography will be donated to The Beverly Family Foundation. As a 3-time breast cancer survivor, Danielle Beverly and her husband Eric joined together to form a foundation dedicated to promoting education, increasing awareness, and providing support and resources for families who have been touched by breast cancer.

As Think Pink Photography grows, so will the opportunities for you to become involved and support this important cause. I encourage you to sign up for our newsletter (on the Think Pink website and Think Pink blog) and tell your friends and family about Think Pink Photography. What a GREAT Week

This has been a great week!

I just found out that we did it!!! Lillie & her family are going to the ocean at the end of this month!!! I just wanted to say thank you to you if you contributed to Lillie's cause. You should feel great helping making this families dream come true!

I heard on the radio talk show I listen to every day Bob & Sheri that you should always think of others first and then yourself second, and if you do, you will be a happier person! I truly believe this and so does The Giving Foundation. I am so proud to be a part of this great organization!

I am now a member of another great organization for photographers, PPA - Professional Photographers of America, Inc.

My new website is live so be sure and check it out. I also ordered some great new equipment today and I can't wait to try it out. Please be sure and give me a call to get your complimentary session & 8x10 print.

The Rostad's

I went over to the Rostad's this morning to get some pictures of Addisyn & Kasen and well the family too! Addisyn was more interested in playing than listening to mom & dad but I did manage to get some great shots of her! Kasen loves having his picture taken and since he isn't quite as fast as Addisyn I was able to keep up with him. I don't think mom and dad thought we would get any good family shots but we did get a couple!

The Promise Project - giving love, grows love!

Imagine having a beautiful child.
Imagine finding out your beautiful child won’t survive past two years old.
Imagine having ONE wish for your child.Imagine everyone banding together to make the wish a reality.

This is the story of Lilie’s family, and this is me (and hopefully all of you), committing myself to find a way to make this happen! Lilie is terminally ill. She has been diagnosed with GM1 Gangliosidosis. It is a rare, incurable lysosomal storage disease (enzyme deficiency) that will ultimately take her life by what research shows. . . by the age of two. She will continue to degenerate, go blind, have seizures, and eventually lose all ability to move and succumb to this disease. She is all but blind and her mom (Jen) is spending her last days enjoying what life is left in her daughter.

All Jen wants to do is take her daughter to the Ocean before she dies and Make a Wish will not grant them the wish because she is under two and they believe that Lilie will not get any benefit from it that it would only benefit the FAMILY… Jen is devastated.

This family is a dear friend of a friend of mine. I’m asking for your help. Myself (along with a bunch of photographer friends of mine) would love to be able to get them to Florida. If we can get them to Florida (there are 6 in their family), they can stay with family…but with tons of medical expenses, right now it just isn’t possible.

Pottery Barn Kids Monthly Baby Contest

Recently Pottery Barn Kids has been hosting a monthly baby contest where clients submit their baby photos to enter. This is a great opportunity to get your childrens gorgeous face out there!!

One thing I wanted to point out with this type of contest is the Official rules. Most contests like these have a clause that states that any photo you submit will become the property of that company. They might also have a clause similar to this contest which says that "By submitting your baby's photo, you irrevocably assign and transfer to Pottery Barn Kids, Inc. and affiliates and their respective successors and assigns, in perpetuity, any and all rights, title and interest in and to the photo you submit in connection with your entry in the contest and give Pottery Barn Kids, Inc. the world-wide right to publish, display, copy, distribute, transmit, and otherwise exploit the photo and to edit and modify the photo to make it suitable for use and publication."

This is an example where professional photographer's copyrights must be respected and contracts followed. When you receive prints from me or any professional photographer, typically that means you receive a limited copyright where you are able to use your purchased prints and digital files for personal use or as gifts to family and friends. This does not cover submission into contests where the photo gets turned over to the company or for any type of compensation or publication.

Some photographers have a commercial or product side to their business where they charge for this type of service to companies like Pottery Barn Kids, and in this case Pottery Barn Kids would be receiving images of your child free for use in their campaigns. Please help support your photographer's way of life, and do not enter professional photos into these contests.

Wow, I just got done editing my FIRST baby session and I have to say I got some great images!

This little guy was 2 months old when I had the privelage of taking his pictures for my friend Tara & her husband Jags.

Seoul was a little sick of mommy changing his clothes by the end of the session but he was a perfect little angel when we just left him alone.

I had the privelage of taking my cousin's boys pictures a couple of weekends ago and I wanted to post some of my favorites from the session that I have edited so far. I am still only half way through editing their pictures but anyways by this weekend they will all be edited and ready for Lisa & the rest of the family to view!

These guys were so fun to work with, little Connor told me he was "very photogenic" when I told him he smiled and posed so nicey for the camera! He also did this thing with his eyebrows...he had me busting out laughing! I don't think Brayden wasn't too thrilled about having his picture taken but he warmed up in the end too!

Wow, that wasn't as hard as I thought it would be! I kept thinking setting up a blog was going to be difficult and take me forever to figure out, wrong, it was simple and easy.

I figured since my website (www.angelakphotography.com) is so new and I don't have a ton of gallery space yet that I should start a blog to serve as a sneak peek at client sessions.
